As far as the routes of the old town and the historical-natural routes, we propose four alternatives, all accompanied by maps of the city:
- A route with a tour of the Estensi Walls: it combines a sightseeing tour of the Walls with a naturalistic itinerary. After the about nine kilometers of the walls, where you can admire ramparts and several buildings that were built to defend the city, the route proceeds through the Bassani park, up to Francolino, via the bike path. From here you can climb on the right bank of the Po river towards Pontelagoscuro where there is the White Island oasis; later, you can descend from the Po banks and thanks to a dirt road back get back to the Bassani park and the walls. The route is about thirty kilometers long.
- First route of the Old Town: The second proposed route consists of nine kilometres and touches monuments of the city such as the Estense Castle, the Cathedral of St. George the Martyr, Schifanoia Palace, Casa Romei, the Monastery of St. Anthony in Polesine and the Archaeological Museum. The walk proceeds on part of the Walls of Ferrara and then back in the old town. This route is suitable for everyone as it is on flat ground and easy to get around thanks to the various bike paths.
- Second route of the Old Town: The third proposed route, which also concerns the area of the historical center, it is feasible thanks to our bike rental in Ferrara: it starts from the Este Castle to go south to the area of the Palace of the City Hall and the Cathedral of St. George the Martyr. It continues then in the direction of the Jewish ghetto, an area between via Mazzini, via Vignatagliata and via Victoria where you can still see the building of the three synagogues, and, further on, the Jewish cemetery. The route is suitable for everyone and consists of four kilometers.
- Renaissance itinerary: It is the fourth proposed itinerary: it offers a tour that touches the main buildings and attractions of the city of Ferrara of the Renaissance period. From the Estense Castle, along Corso Ercole I d'Este, you can admire the Palazzo dei Diamanti, and on Corso Porta Mare you can see Palazzo Massari. Near Palazzo Massari is Piazza Ariostea, and continuing the tour, you will come across the temple of St. Christopher at the Certosa; at the end of the tour you will come across the house of Ludovico Ariosto. The itinerary is suitable for all ages and it is nearly five kilometers long.
For those interested instead in wine and food tasting cycling tours, we can propose excursions in the Po Delta, a lush area, rich in typical products of Ferrara, or in the valleys of Comacchio, to taste the famous eels, or, for those especially loving the molluscs, a bike ride to Goro, where they breed and collect Goro clams, that are, like the eels of Comacchio, one of the “seventeenth pearls” of Ferrara.
We invite you to visit us in Ferrara Store: you will find a welcoming environment in which you can choose with care between the various typical foods of Ferrara and where you can find the salama da sugo, the pumpkin cappellacci, the garlic of Voghiera, the pampapato, the wine of the Eliceo forest, the coppia ferrarese and the pumpkin flatbread.
